Europe’s biggest climate change summer school is looking for the best students to create the “entrepreneurs and professionals” of the future

• More than 30 Master and PhD students assisted to the Info Day about the summer school of the European initiative Climate-KIC organized in the University of Valencia

An Info Day about the Journey, an international summer school, took place on thursday 26^th of February in Valencia. The Journey’s target audience are Master and PhD students from a multitude of disciplines related with the mitigation of the climate change’s impacts.

This summer class, promoted by the European initiative Climate-KIC, consists in a five week-long course across three European countries. It will offer a unique combination of academic study and real-world business experience with the aim of creating the climate change leaders of tomorrow.

In this 2015 edition, more than 300 students from various nationalities will be divided into 8 separate groups, encompassing 12 locations across Europe. Students from each group will journey across three countries, gaining insight and experience from a selection of Europe’s best universities and most innovative businesses.

The Journey aims to bring a multidisciplinary approach to climate change mitigation, since students from a multitude of academic backgrounds such as climate and environment, but also design, architecture, or economics assisted to the info day.

Julia Ferrandiz, one of the valencian students who participated in the 2014 edition of the Journey, was presented at the event: “It was a fantastic experience at a personal and professional level. You feel especially motivated to work with so many talented people from different disciplines. When working in a group, your fellow colleagues complement the knowledge that you miss, and you bring what you know on the subject in which you are a specialist.”

María del Rey, course coordinator of the Valencian placement, commented: “The summer school, the Journey, will give you aptitudes and a whole new mindset, providing you with business skills that you will need in the future economy.”

Climate-KIC’s representative of Alumni, Boris Véliz, also intervened and explained the opportunities for a student after having participated in the summer school. Marta Esteve, Climate-KIC Valencia’s Communication Manager, briefly described other Climate-KIC programmes, such as the Accelerator for start-ups and the programme of professional mobility, “Pioneers into Practice”.
