News 13 May 2015

The conference on water in Europe held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Region of Murcia have highlighted the importance of optimization of water resources in a world threatened by climate change. Some speakers stressed the importance of rigorously managing water scarcity, being innovative in this field as well as in the debugging.

The conference addressed issues such as the Water Framework Directive of the EU, funding opportunities in this field and the possibilities of Climate-KIC, the main initiative of the European Union in innovation against climate change, an  “European opportunity for innovation and create business in water management”. To that end, Fernando Martínez Alzamora, Engineering Institute of Water and Environment of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and Marta Esteve, head of communications for Climate-KIC, explained in Murcia the AGADAPT project. Specifically, Esteve, focused on the European initiative on climate change EIT Climate KIC. For his part, Martinez developed the explanation of AGADAPT project, which is within the innovation pillar of Climate KIC, coordinated by FCVRE ( Foundation Valencian Community European Region).

AGADAPT seeks to develop and implement new methods to reduce and optimize water consumption in agriculture by combining knowledge, technological innovation and the transfer of innovative technologies and practices created in the Mediterranean -a relatively dry area- to other parts of Europe. More info at www.climate-kic.org and www.climatekic-valencia.org
