ACCENT Climate-KIC innovation project & tool presented in Valencia, Spain.
On 16th December, 2015 took place in Valencia the technical conference: Thinking the city: diagnostic tools for integrated urban regeneration.
The objective of the session was the analysis and evaluation of different diagnostic tools on the urban reality and its potential to set out efficient and integrated strategies for urban regeneration.
The conference was organized by the Valencian Institute of Building on occasion of ACCENT (Accompany cities in energy strategy ) innovation project presentation and allowed us to show the platform that is being developed thereunder to a large number of representatives of municipalities and public administrations as well as all those professionals linked to the field of urbanism and urban regeneration sector.
ACCENT is an Innovation project developed within the Climate-KIC, Europe’s largest public-private innovation partnership, working to address the challenge of climate change. ACCENT project started in 2014 with a proof of concept phase, intended to deepen the needs in key stakeholders with respect to energy planning. After having validated the feasibility and added value of its offer, ACCENT project have entered a demonstration phase in 2015. In order to support the energy transition of European cities, ACCENT will provide city stakeholders data and tools to map and diagnose existing energetic situation, and design energy strategies which maximize energy efficiency. ACCENT tool is being developed and tested in 4 pilot cities and will be available for every cities before the end of 2016.
Coming back to the technical conference, this session enabled to confirm the importance of GIS systems and tools developed based on them, which allow visualising a lot of information from the existing urban reality, and that facilitate the analysis of the city, buildings and population conditions, in order to develop policies that suit to the existing needs, especially on energy efficiency and rehabilitation.
Besides, renowned specialists in the field of rehabilitation and urban regeneration presented their experiences from other perspectives, attending to multi criteria indicator systems, incorporating citizens’ participation mechanisms or intervening under gender perspective.
