The CIES Living Lab is a brand new center available for entrepreneurs working on mitigating climate change. Focusing on the development of innovative facades and sustainable work environments, it is also part of the international Living Lab network of the Climate-KIC Flagship Building Technologies Accelerator (BTA).

Supporting green businesses

A joint project between industry, research and the public sector, CIES Living Lab is conducted by the Valencia Institute of Building (IVE), the city council of Castellon and the Ceramic Institute of Technology (ITC). Asking for almost no rent, this Lab offers an attractive office location for sustainable businesses. As Luis Gargori from the city council of Castellon explained: “the CIES Living Lab is open for companies and start-ups dealing with a low carbon emission economy that need a space to develop their professional activities”.

Opening event

The opening ceremony that took place on 22nd December was presented by the mayor of Castellon, Juan Alfonso Bataller, the president of AVAESEN Marcos Lacruz and the director of the Valencia Institute of Building (IVE) Luis Esteban Dominguez. The Climate-KIC Flagship BTA was presented by Carolina Mateo from IVE.

Several organizations collaborating with the Lab attended the event, such as the Ceramic Institute of Technology (ITC) and KERANEN GRUPO S.A. These firms are testing the NIR Reflective Ventilated Façade System: an energy saving building façade, using ventilation and reflective ceramic tiles, developed as part of BTA.

About BTA and the BTA Living Labs

Building Technologies Accelerator (BTA) is a Climate-KIC Flagship that supports the development of sustainable building technologies and stimulates their dissemination into the market.

The BTA Living Labs are living laboratories: real-life buildings of home or work environments which provide an ideal environment for testing new sustainable products and systems together with their users. These products and systems can be tested for a short or long period of time.

There are six living labs in total, located in: the Netherlands (Concept House Village, The Green Village), Sweden (HSB Living Lab), Switzerland (House of Natural Resources, NEST) and Spain (CIES).
