Reductions of more than 90% of the current cooling demand in buildings have been estimated (for Mediterranean climate regions).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-20627 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/spain.climate-kic.prod.twkmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2018\/10\/infographic-Hidrocer-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"87\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The consortium between ABIO-UPM (research group from Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid) and ITC (Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Castell\u00f3n) will lead #HidroCer laboratory technology to a market product. The EIT-Climate KIC funding, obtained for a Pathfinder project, will allow to analyse its implementation in present market demand.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Efficiency Directive (EU) 2018\/844 has recently been published, and will come into force on 9 July 2018. The new Directive limits emissions even more and, to achieve this aim, includes as a key strategy measures to accelerate the rate of building renovation towards more energy efficient ones. Furthermore, the new buildings must be already Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB). Therefore, a growing market demand of building construction systems that allow reaching the indoor comfort temperature without the use of mechanical systems is expected. Nowadays, the building construction sector is living a paradigm shift, at this key moment #HidroCer aims to position itself in a strategic place.<\/p>\n<p>#HidroCer can be easily integrated in current ventilated facade systems destined for new and\/or existing buildings, it is only 2.5 cm thick. This ceramic material transpires, evaporates and manages to keep its surface temperature well below the high summer outdoor temperatures, all with low water consumption and without any other external contribution of energy.<\/p>\n<p>By lowering building envelope temperature and emissions to the atmosphere, the urban heat island effect is mitigated and air quality breathed in cities improved.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hydro-efficient ceramics #HydroCer, thermoregulate the building envelope by means of evaporative cooling.
